I wonder if we will ever have an LA Student Section to take the SoCal Student Section of the week crown? We’ve only had one San Diego student section take the SoCal crown. The Inland Empire has been rocking it this season while Orange County has a large group of great student sections. Hopefully the other two regions bring some great student sections to battle with the OC and the IE. Before we check the top student section battles in Southern California for this week, let’s recap last weeks top student sections.   WEEK 7 SOCAL STUDENT SECTION RECAP Over in San Diego, the San Marcos Blue Crew made a second straight appearance to the SoCal of the week voting poll after the Blue Crew battled in the stands again, this time against El Camino...
While Orange County has a large amount of great student sections, it is the Inland Empire that has the powerhouse ones. For the fourth time this season, our SoCal Student Section of the week champion hail from the IE and for the second time this year, it is a Baseline League student section! We’ll get to the champs in a moment. Meanwhile in San Diego, the San Marcos Blue Crew seem to be the boss when it comes to marketing themselves as a school with amazing school spirit. The Knights had a battle with El Camino of Oceanside and I’m sure the Blue Crew battled with the El Camino Jungle. https://twitter.com/sm_bluecrew/status/1183090451860996097 In the end, San Marcos snuck by the Wildcats in a 13-12 victory. The Blue Crew representative San Diego for the third straight week....
We have past the halfway point and we are noticing some student section that were not on our radar. We may have four new regional student section champions in December, but there’s still time for the defending student section champions to repeat. Work the social media game and defend your title. Before we checkout some of the top student section battles in Southern California this week, let’s take a look at last week student section recap. WEEK 6 SOCAL STUDENT SECTION RECAP In San Diego, the Cathedral Catholic Los Locos of San Diego went crazy, which is fitting since that their name. Los Locos went wild and so did the Dons in their 50-14 victory over Point Loma of San Diego. It was a student section battle in the Avocado League that caught my eye....
There is something brewing with the students in the Coachella Valley area.  School spirit and rowdiness in the stands is starting to get noticed over in the desert.  We’ll get back to the desert in a minute, but let’s take a look at the other three finalist for SoCal Student Section of the Week for Week 6. Over in San Diego, the San Marcos Blue Crew made a second straight appearance in the polling. The Blue Crew has been amazing in the stands, but the one thing they have improved this year has been their social media game. https://twitter.com/sm_bluecrew/status/1180600937267658752 With San Marcos facing La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad on the road in a big Avocado League matchup, the Blue Crew went road warriors and rocked the stands with a student section battle with the La...
I’m just glad Week 5, otherwise known as the bye week for many teams is over. Week 5 is normally the week teams take the week off, which means it gets tougher to find some quality student sections. Don’t get me wrong, they’re were some good student sections, but they just never post a video or a photo of their student section and therefore will never get the recognition from me. Also, posting videos of just the Homecoming festivities at halftime, isn’t showing off the student section. Just for future reference. Hopefully we get some student sections showing off their school spirit and if they do, it won’t be so hidden. I’d like to get some sleep. Last week took hours for me to find a student section from all four SoCal Regions. Really it...
Week 5 is now a week where football teams take a week off after playing in Week Zero. A nice rest up before the start of league. This is also the perfect time for student sections to make noise and make the best of getting recognition in Southern California with the powerhouse student sections on an off week. Shadow Hills Dungeon of Indio did this three years ago, Los Osos Grizzly Nation of Rancho Cucamonga did this two years ago, Ontario Jag Jungle did this last year. This year, it was the Cathedral City Black Hole. I am very familiar with Cathedral City. See, I got hired as an announcer for the Max Prep Holiday Classic in 2011 when Cathedral City High School was the main gym for the top games in the country and...
Despite finishing as the runner-up for the Week 4 SoCal Student Section of the Week, you have to give credit to the Valencia Vikings Nation If Amazon CEO Jeff Bezo showed up last week, who is next? Maybe Kobe Bryant makes a pitstop to checkout the Newport Harbor Tarpit of Newport Beach? This student section craze is for real! Before we give you a preview of the Week 5 Student Sections, let’s quickly recap last week insane student sections all over Southern California. WEEK 4 STUDENT SECTION RECAP Last week, the Chaparral Fanatics of Temecula returned to their seats in a sea of green once again to cheer on their Pumas, which took on Santiago of Corona. The Pumas took a 38-24 victory and the Fanatics went wild for them.  https://twitter.com/CHS_Pumas/status/1175248567541198848 It was good enough...
I doubt anyone knows this, but I began the student section trail in 2015. At the time the Orange County Register, who I currently work for as a freelance writer, had Student Section Rankings for basketball only.  I had just joined OC Sidelines as a weekly columnist and decided to join in on the Student Section craze, which wasn’t that big at the time. We got the basketball student section rankings in and when football season came around later in the year, I came with the idea for Student Section of the Week. OC Sidelines, now called SoCal Sidelines, gave me the ok and we named the Tesoro Titan Army the 2015 Week Zero Student Section of the Week. This led on to four years of student section madness, which including the beginning of this...
At some point, a Los Angeles Student Section might have a SoCal Student Section of the Week title.  They did have four winners last year. Maybe a volleyball student section makes a splash again and perhaps, wins this time. https://twitter.com/vmhs_athletics/status/1172698789930401792 Last week, an Inland Empire student section won last week with Los Osos Grizzly Nation of Rancho Cucamonga feel just short. Los Osos will win this one day. The good news is they’re getting noticed. In Los Angeles, we had the Bishop Amat Dawgpound of La Puente and the Crespi Cabana of Encino fall short to the Chaminade Cage of West Hills. Bishop Amat is another student section that will win this at some point in the season. https://twitter.com/TheMESSEHS/status/1172753647479844864 In Orange County, we had several student sections battle it out before we went with the...
Some student section have a tough going when it comes to getting some early home games.  Others can’t get the opportunity to be road warriors with their football teams traveling very very far. Some teams just have a lot of away games, but that won’t stop some student sections like the Vista Murrieta Bronco Bleacher Creatures. While Vista BBC went road warriors on everyone, the Chaminade Cage of West Hills faced a friendly foe in Crespi of Encino and their Crespi Cabana. The Cage showed to cheer on their Eagles and show some savage signage. In fact, did you know that the Crespi Cabana likes Nickelback? The Cage let us know that as Chaminade took the 55-14 victory over the Celts. The Cage repped LA over the Cabana and the Bishop Amat Dawgpound of La...
