A tie? Yes.  One game was cancelled due to the air quality. Cleveland of Reseda will look to be co-champions with Birmingham of Lake Balboa in the West Valley League.  With the tie, I went 13-6-1. I mean it’s a slight improvement. Let’s eat my words in six of those games. In the Inland Empire, I went with Linfield Christian of Temecula over Ontario Christian. I was off by a touchdown. I guess I won’t get Knighted for that one. Bad pun, sorry. In the Los Angeles region, I went with the theory of ‘To be the man, you got to beat the man!’ Well, Culver City is the man after beating Lawndale. Well done! I should have gone with that route when I picked Hart of Newhall over Valencia. Valencia is still the man...

I bragged after I went 17-3 last week. I jinxed myself. I went 12-8. That’s the second time I went 12-8.  Let me make my amends to the eight teams and hopefully I can go 17-3 next week to continue this pattern. I was four points away from getting Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga right, but Etiwanda snuck by. It helps to have a student section like the Red Zone by your side. I should have gone with the “To be the man, you got to beat the man” theory. I picked Xavier Prep of Palm Desert over Palm Springs. Palm Springs still rules the desert. Speaking of being the man, while Alemany of Mission Hills is on fire, I should have gone with Bishop Amat of La Puente. Whoops on that! I knew Loara...

A 17-3 record this past week means a much improved record in Los Angeles.  After going 1-4 last week in my LA games, I flipped it to a 4-1 record. 4-1 record also occurred in the Inland Empire and in San Diego and a 5-0 record in Orange County. So, before we go to this weeks picks, let me eat my words on the three games I got wrong. In the Inland Empire, Rancho Verde of Moreno Valley pulled off a big victory over Norco. I said that Norco should give Centennial of Corona a run for the Big VIII League title. Yeah, so much for that. Granted, they can still pull it off, but Rancho Verde put a dent in a high scoring one sided victory. Huge apology to Rancho Verde. Meanwhile in Los...

Wow, I really tanked in the Los Angeles games this week. Going 1-4 last week in LA means I shouldn’t make bets in NFL games. Anyway, I did lose two games in the Inland Empire and that’s better than two.  I thought Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga would use their fast start against a great program in Kaiser of Fontana. I should have stuck with the power team as Kaiser won 42-34. I thought the same with Temecula Valley. A great start and I went with a hot team against a San Jacinto squad that lost two games all of last year and have already lost two games four games in. I should have put into account that the losses were to Eastlake of Chula Vista and Wilson of Long Beach. 41-3 victory for the...

A 16-4 record. That’s a slight improvement. I was expecting or perhaps hoping that Redlands East Valley would get their first win of the season, but it seems that Heritage of Menifee was not ready to give them the first win. I wasn’t close as the Patriots won 33-10. Sorry for doubting you. Meanwhile, I thought Alemany of Mission Hills wasn’t ready quite yet for a program like Oaks Christian of Westlake Village. Yeah, it looks like Alemany is going to make it’s way to the top nationally as they dismantled the Lions 44-7. Another one sided victory that I didn’t pick.  I thought Oxnard would take the win over Camarillo and I almost got that one right, but Camarillo won by one. Both teams looked pretty even on paper and apparently on the field....
