To all the student sections who had football teams on a bye week for the first round game, let me just say, Welcome back! Last week, finding the four top student sections in Southern California wasn’t as easy compared to the last few weeks. Some student sections said it will be easier with their return. Let’s hope they’re right. Let’s see the student sections that did stand out last week before we preview the student section battles for the CIF Quarterfinals.   SOCAL STUDENT SECTION FIRST ROUND RECAP  Last week after falling short a few times in taking the title, the Valencia Viking Nation finally ended on top as the SoCal Student Section of the week.  Despite the 17-7 season ending loss to San Clemente, it was a strong final case for the Los Angeles...
The Valencia Viking Nation had made several appearances as a SoCal Student Section of the Week nominee, but fell short every time. Viking Nation stepped it up with their Vikings hosting the first round of the CIF-SS Division II playoffs against San Clemente. Viking Nation went with a “White Out” and did what has been working all season and that is go wild for their football squad. Viking Nation showed off the craziness in the stands and almost rattled San Clemente. While Valencia season came to an end with a 17-7 loss to the Tritons, it was a great way for the Viking Nation Football Student Section to end. Hopefully, this can carry over to Basketball season. Once again, Viking Nation representative Los Angeles, but this time there was a different outcome as the Valencia...
MANNY’S GAMES OF THE WEEK Last Week Record: 13-7 2019 Record: 179-63-1 So I started off good with the Inland Empire picks and Los Angeles picks, but everything fell apart when I got to Orange County and San Diego as I went 2-3 in each Region. That left me from start 9-1 to 4-6. As I should have seen it coming, first round playoff upsets arrived and yours truly didn’t prepare for it.  Let me make my peace with the seven schools who I predicted their seasons to end. Locke of Los Angeles - I picked Granada Hills to win and I was just off by a missed PAT kick. The thing is that I’m predicting Locke to lose on Friday again. Maybe if I pick against them, they win? Long Beach Poly - Here’s...

The final week of the regular season did not disappoint as we had our second San Diego Student Section taking the SoCal Student Section of the Week title.  The playoffs are underway and some student sections don’t have the luxury of cheering on their teams as their seasons have come to an end.  For the ones that do have a team in the postseason, now is the time to turn it up a notch. One loss and it’s off to basketball season for these student sections. Before we preview the student sections battles, let’s recap the top student sections from last week. WEEK 10 STUDENT SECTION RECAP We start in the Inland Empire where the Arlington Lions Den of Riverside went all out in the final game for the Lions. A lot was on the...
MANNY’S GAMES OF THE WEEK Last Week Record: 17-3 2019 Record: 166-56-1 17-3 last week as we head to the playoffs.  I’m getting better at this as the season nears. Now the playoffs are unpredictable and I know I made playoff predictions already, but I might as well continue this and see if I can keep the winning streak going. Of course, I need to make amends to the three teams I disrespected by picking against them. Rancho Cucamonga - I should know this by now. If I pick Upland to win, they will lose. If I pick them to lose, they will win. I picked Upland in this one and Rancho Cucamonga...well, if that’s the case, the Cougars should be sending me a gift card to Blaze Pizza or something. But, I did pick...
With the Student Section game going crazy and into a whole other level, some of these powerhouse student sections have to make an adjustment to stay at the top. The Carlsbad Loud Crowd made an adjustment as they look to defend their San Diego Football Student Section of the Year title for a third year in a row. Last year, the Loud Crowd took the title and the year before, they took it when the Student Section craze was at a website called SoCal Sidelines. The Loud Crowd went with the usual at the beginning of the season and despite student sections catching in on the hype, the Loud Crowd still stayed at the top. The problems was the other top student sections. The three-peat was in danger. https://twitter.com/loudcrowdCHS/status/1191779569075752960 The Loud Crowd went with the...

A tie? Yes, but this is SoCal Student Sections and we share the wealth. Besides thanks to you, we broke a record for most votes for the Student Section of the week with 3,169 votes. The all-time record is 5,734 votes when Rancho Cucamonga took the 2018 SoCal Football Student Section title over the Villa Park Black Pack! Now, we know a tie isn’t as ideal and while past winners brag about winning it alone, remember this, 3,169 votes and Chino Cowboy Country took 35% of the votes, which means Cowboy Country took over 1,100 votes whereas Week 8 winner took 37% of the 1,846 votes, which means 683 votes.  So while Cowboy Country tied, they went crazy on the votes. Nothing to be discouraged about! The Chino Cowboys were one of the best football...
